What is Progressive Roulette
One of the most popular pursuits of the gambler has been the huge stakes offered in progressive jackpots.
The most common progressive jackpot games relate to slots where machines are linked to one another and the accumulated income from all of them allows a casino to provide a large jackpot, sometimes in the millions.
Progressive jackpots are now available for roulette with Microgaming patenting a game. This allows a player to place a side bet for a particular number appearing two or more times in a row.
The side bet is in addition to the standard bet placed with the casino and buys the player chips. Bonus credits are paid out as a supplementary to the main jackpot prize, allowing the player to earn chips.
The jackpot is awarded if the same number appears five times consecutively. If the number appears four times the player will receive a credit of 3,000 chips, three times 200 chips and twice in a row 15 chips.
The progressive jackpot is possible due to the number of players who will place side bets and because of the high house edge the side bet offers. This edge is 40.58 percent and reduces by 0.52 percent every $10,000.
Each spin ensures that the progressive jackpot increases until one player wins the accumulated total, often in excess of $100,000.
The game opts for the European Roulette wheel so that players only have the one zero slot to deal with, rather than the double zero and zero wheel on the American wheel.
