Sawdust Joint
An American term for a gambling location that is just a basic location, not a luxurious casino.
Scared Money
Funds that a player cannot afford to lose.
Sequence Bet
This is a bet that may not be decided on a single roll of the dice.
Seven Out
A reference that refers to a shooter’s throw of a 7 instead of the repetition of a point number after a point had already been established. Once a 7 out happens, this will effectively end the roll or series.
Session
A play period or sitting at any given gambling gaming table.
Shark
A player who fakes being a fish, or amateur player, early in a game.
Sharker
A player who cheats.
Sharp
A very astute bettor.
Sharper
A cheating player.
Shill
A casino employee who sits at gaming tables to fill an empty seat until other players arrive. They play with casino money.
Shoe
Often a wooden card used to dispense cards.
Shoot
This is a complete series of dice rolls before the shooter sevens out.
Shooter
The player who is throwing the dice.
Short Run
A very short series of game events or wagers.
Silver mining
Another term for slot walking. When someone goes from slot to slot looking for leftover coins in the coin slot.
Single
A straight bet on one selection and often referred to as a straight-up bet.
Skinny McKinney
The number 7 on a dice throw.
Skoon
In the US, one dollar.
Slot Club Member
Players who join a casino´s slot club. These are comp clubs where the player is given a member card that can be inserted into any game machine. It records the player´s gambling habits and often rewards them with comps such as cash back, free food or a hotel room. These cards can sometimes be used at table games as well. The player who uses a card has to accumulate a certain amount of points before a comp is offered. All casinos have slot clubs and they all operate with different rules.
Slot walking
The practice of going to unattended game machines looking for coins in the coin slot.
Slow bleed
When a player loses money steadily but slowly.
Snake Eyes
The name given to a roll when the dice show a 2. Eyes because they look like eyes and a Snake because they are very bad news for the shooter.
Square Pair
The dice rolls two 4s. Also known as a Hard Eight.
Stand off
A term that refers to players who do not win or lose a don´t pass or don´t come bet when a 12 has been rolled.
Stickman
The casino employee or dealer who calls the game and uses the stick. He or she is responsible for making proposition bets. They also return the dice to the shooter.
Stiff
A player who never tips any dealers or another casino employee.
Still Up.
The announcement by dealers reminding the players that one of their wagers is still in the play. Often, asked as a question by the dealer asking if the players want the wagers repeated
